Jim Hutchinson – 50 Years in the Lord’s Work (45 min)

Mr James G. Hutchinson (1920-2011), known to most as ‘Jim’, was an evangelist who laboured for the Lord for over 60 years mainly in Northern Ireland. In 1996, before a crowd of hundreds in Cambridge Avenue Gospel Hall, Ballymena, he related the Lord’s dealings with him during 50 years in the Lord’s work. This is a recording of Mr Hutchinson speaking on that occasion. Saved at the age of 14 in 1934 in Banbridge while attending Tent meetings conducted by his father, John Hutchinson, and Mr Willie Johnston, Jim soon became actively engaged in preaching the gospel wherever opportunity arose. Just before WW2, Jim was spoken to powerfully about consecration to the Lord in a Sunday afternoon ministry meeting taken by David Craig. From that day on, Jim’s life was never to be the same. He thought about going to Africa as a missionary, but eventually felt led to serve the Lord on his home turf. He speaks in this message about some of the men who influenced him, including John Moneypenny, William Bunting and Charlie McEwan. Jim Hutchinson was a godly, consistent preacher of the gospel, and ever the gracious gentleman too. He recounts that in 50 years he took part in 490 series of meetings, 980 funerals and more than 500 weddings!
