Saved at Coopers Corner in Killeevan (33 min)

Born in New Bliss, Co Monaghan, Ireland, Jim Smyth (1919-2012) grew up without a knowledge of the gospel. His father drank a lot, leaving the family dirt poor. Jim was a hard working young man who enjoyed the pleasures of the world in the local badminton team and as the drummer in a dance band. He heard the gospel once from two “Faith Mission pilgrims” in a meeting in New Bliss, but he didn’t like it and left the meeting early. Some time later a Christian, who had shown kindness to Jim’s ill father, invited Jim to go and listen to the gospel preached by Billy Hughes, an ex-Aston Villa football player. God began to deal with Jim about his sin and a while afterwards Jim was saved by the roadside at “Coopers Corner” in Killeevan, Co Monaghan, in March 1947 aged 28. (Testimony given in Ballymena on 23rd Oct 1988).
