The Great Mystery – Ephesians 3 | Michael Penfold

The Great Mystery – Ephesians 3 | Michael Penfold

The 16th century Reformers, John Knox, Martin Luther and John Calvin, were supersessionists. That is, they believed God was finished with the Jews and had replaced them with the Church. The most common term for this idea is “replacement theology”. More recent Reformed theologians tend to hold to a soft-supersessionist continuation-fulfillment view, where the Church is called “spiritual Israel” and/or a continuation of Israel. In this sermon on Ephesians 3, Michael Penfold shows that the Church began in Acts 2 as a new and separate entity to Israel. It was a ‘mystery’, hidden in past ages, but revealed to Paul once Israel had been temporarily and partially hardened. However, at Christ’s 2nd coming, ethnic converted Israel will again enjoy blessing in the land promised to their father Abraham. (Recorded in Thunder Bay Gospel Hall, ON, Canada on 13th Nov 2025)
