Born in Canada in 1933, Max McLean grew up on a small farm in a house with no electricity. He moved to the “big town” of Oil Springs in Dec 1945 where his shrewd father bought a business. But there was another side to the McLeans! Max’s father had a fondness for drinking and gambling, ruinous habits he passed to his son. At age 18, Max moved to Sarnia to work in the Polysar rubber plant. There he met a man called Dave Kember. Dave was known in the rubber plant as “the man who preaches to everybody”.
Dave soon started preaching to Max, telling him he needed to be born again, visiting him, and giving him gospel leaflets. Max mocked and laughed at Dave, but then tragedy struck. Max’s only brother Don was diagnosed with cancer and died very quickly. Max was shaken. Then the conflict began. On one side, David Kember and his Bible, on the other side Max’s boss Louis who tried his best to turn Max against the Lord. Max wanted to be saved, but he was proud! Dave Kember told him “You won’t be saved until you agree with every charge God has against you in Romans Ch 3”. Have a listen and find out how Max found peace with God through Jesus Christ.
