Whose faith follow: Mr A T Stewart (1885-1977) | Believer's MagazineArchie Stewart (1885-1977) emigrated from Ireland to the USA as an 18 year old unsaved lad. However, in Philadelphia, a gospel tract called Good Tidings to the Anxious soon came into his possession, which was used in his salvation. He was baptised in the famous Moody Memorial Church in Chicago but later saw the truth of the local assembly pattern from his New Testament and joined with the believers in Central Hall, Detroit. He was commended to full time service in 1922 and for the next 55 years he preached the gospel and saw many souls saved and assemblies planted.* He was a strong and hearty man who pioneered gospel work especially in the states of Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan. His warm and earnest sermon delivery can be heard in this recording from Garnavillo conference, Iowa, USA, in 1961, in which he speaks on 4 mentions of the expression “as for me” from Psalm 73, Joshua 24, 1 Samuel 12 and 1 Chronicles 28.

* The story of Mr Stewart’s labours in Wisconsin is mentioned in an article in Truth and Tidings by James Frazier.
