Surprised by Salvation (33 min)

“Salvation was completely different to how I imagined it would be.”

Eugene Higgins explains the way of salvation from the last verse of John’s Gospel chapter 3, which reads: “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him” (Jn 3.36). He develops his presentation of the gospel around 4 contrasts in this verse:

  • “Whom”, not “How”
  • “Him”, not “you”
  • “Having”, not “hoping”
  • “Heaven”, not “hell”

As he expands on the theme of personal salvation, and how someone can know that they are right with God and “ready for heaven”, he homes in on why many people, who are familiar with the message of the Bible, have difficulty becoming “saved”. Mr Higgins relates how he tried desperately to work up a feeling that he really, really, really believed…in the hope that he would thereby know for sure that his sins were forgiven – but to no avail. When he actually did become saved, he says “salvation was completely different to how I imagined it would be”.

You won’t want to miss hearing Mr Higgins’s careful and powerful presentation of this much misunderstood problem and how the Bible answers it. (Message preached Oct 6th 2019)
