John Thompson – Gospel: “Salvation or Deception” (23 min)

John Thompson (1921-2008) grew up in Northern Ireland and was saved at the age of 16, on 26th Feb 1937. A Policeman, Mr Thompson was used mightily of the Lord, while stationed in Rosslea, Co Fermanagh, to see some of his colleagues saved, among whom were John Rowe, Ernest Gribben and William Nesbitt (to hear the “Rosslea story”, and Mr Thompson’s testimony, click here). In 1951 Mr Thompson turned down promotion in the Royal Ulster Constabulary and went out full time as an evangelist, supported by his godly wife Ena. His first series of meetings was with Edmund Allen in Monaghan Gospel Hall and lasted 9 weeks. Mr Thompson later held series of gospel meetings with William Bunting, Tom Ball, Dr Hagan, Eddie Fairfield, Sam Ferguson, John Hawthorne, John Wells, Kerr Duff, Joe Turkington, Sam McBride, David Gilliland and many others. Mr Thompson believed in labouring long and hard in the gospel. In 1953 he and Tom Ball preached in Rathfriland for 30 weeks straight, seeing 23 saved. In 1954 he and Mr Ball did another 35 consecutive weeks, in Limavady, with another 25 professing faith in Christ. All who knew Mr Thompson remember his warm smile, his hearty handshake, his earnest prayers and his godly demeanour. He was also an indefatigable tract publisher and personally gave out multiple thousands of tracts in Belfast city and throughout the whole of Ireland and the Isle of Man. In this message Mr Thompson preaches the gospel on people either being deceived by the devil, or saved by the Lord Jesus Christ (Readings: Rev 20:1-2, 7-8, 10, 12:9, 12, Luke 23:33-34, 39-44, 17:26-27).
