Frank Pearcey – Encouragement (32 min)

Frank Pearcey (1913-1994) grew up in Toronto, Canada. While he respected his parent’s beliefs and attended meetings, his greatest ambition was to play professional hockey. In 1934, Mr. Herb Harris and Mr. Albert Joyce began a series of gospel meetings in the Brock Avenue Gospel Hall and Frank attended out of duty to his mother. Mr. Harris gave out the hymn Eternity, Time Soon Will End at every meeting, and Frank soon became convicted of his need of salvation. The meetings closed after a number of weeks, and Frank thought, “I have missed it.” The following Wednesday, still under conviction, he prayed earnestly “God, send someone to the house who can tell me how to be saved.” Immediately after he finished there was a knock at the door. It was Herb Harris. A conversation ensued. After some time Mr Harris said, “Frank, I can’t tell you anymore. I can’t save you, so we’ll bow and I’ll commend you to God and hope the next time we meet on earth, you’ll tell me you’re saved.” With Mr Harris gone, Frank was in despair. He fell on his knees and cried, “Lord, I’m ungodly, every inch of me. I deserve to be in hell for my sins. But I want to be saved, and saved right now.” In the darkest hour the light shone in. The Holy Spirit brought Romans 5:6 to his mind: “Christ died for the ungodly”. Frank realised that since he was ungodly, Christ had died for him, and he rested there and got peace! It was March 13th 1934.

Mr Pearcey later became a full time evangelist who was much used in the USA and Canada in gospel preaching. God blessed his labours and many souls were saved. In this message, given in Detroit in 1986, Mr Pearcey speaks on “encouragement” from 4 sources: from God (1 Sam 30:1-6), from the brethren (Acts 28:15-16), from the Lord’s presence (2 Tim 4:16-18), and from the promises of God (Phil 4:19-20).
